The use of TICS in foreign language classrooms

The Internet has become a new platform in which it is very easy to create, upload or share information with Web 2.0 technology, that is, with software that allows the registration of books or the storage of information, which in turn facilitates creativity, collaboration and participation among users. In fact, this technology is increasingly popular with students: they write on different blogs, upload photos and videos, build personal profiles and interact with each other every day.

Some of the main reasons for using these technologies:
  • Increase the student's creativity when using social media such as youtube for creating a video.

  • Promotes student-centered learning: it allows users to become the producers of knowledge and makes it easier for us to share our work with others.

  • It promotes many opportunities for the practice of the foreign language: students can play with the language and in a more informal context, there are many pages that can serve to teach English such as British Council or Duolingo.
  • Engage students: It also helps motivate the shyest students when it comes to participating more in class. Create freedom and independence in learning: the internet is a resource that is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and this encourages students to share information at a level that traditional classes cannot reach.

As teachers we need to find our own way to use these technologies in class. Despite new technologies, teachers will always be at the center of educational intervention, because we will be the ones who encourage and motivate our students to become better apprentices.
